Ive broken one of these off of the drive. Yeah, the center portion is stuck in the end of the cable, the plastic yanno... The connector fingers are still in the drive.
I carefully stuck the cable back on the drive in a manner where the fingers of the cable would still contact where they needed to etc.. I plugged it all back in.. (this was in my media box)
It worked.
No. I will not take a "working" broken connector back apart. I pressed my luck sticking it back together. Maybe in some case where I need to un-marry the cable from the drive I'll take a pic of how it worked, but no.. Not just for the sake of it.
In the end. Be careful with the stuff. It can break easier than you think. It did for me. Just lucky it still works.

Well if you think about it, all they need to do is build a case around the SATA connection like what they did to mobos.
