Im going to be getting a Playstation 3 when I return home from holiday vacation. I have been wondering how PS2 games will look running on my 52" 720P-DLP.
For those of you who have been playing PS2 games on an HDTV via PS3...how does it look? Anything I should know about?
I won't be getting any PS3 games right away, but will most likely be looking out for Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII, and Metal Gear Solid 3 for PS2. Any thoughts on these games in particular being run on an HDTV via PS3?
Thanks!

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
Should I expect to see problems with the aspect ratio? I'm not sure what the native resolution of those games are, or if the PS2 even supported widescreen resolutions. It won't be distorted or look messed up or anything will it? I guess I could tolerate some jaggies here and there in order to play some of the older games, but I know if the screen was actually distorted that would annoy me quite a bit.
Also, how do you guys feel about either the 40GB or 80GB PS3's? Which one do you think I should go for, and why?
I was looking at the back of the games and noticed that a lot of them require anywhere from 5MB - 2.8GB of HDD storage. I could see the 40GB-HDD filling up rather quickly if that's the case and the trend continues. Should this be something to worry about if I planned on getting the 40GB-PS3(assuming I decide to ignore PS2 support).
It's tough trying to decide if the extra $100 for the 80GB - PS3 is really worth it.

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
I have about 45GB left on my 60GB model.
Doesn't the 40GB version have no PS2 support?
As for aspect ratio i can't answer fully but it hasn't annoyed me yet. I know you can set options related to scaling, but not sure if it affects 4:3 or 16:9.
I'll have to check later.

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
No, the 40GB version does NOT hvae PS2 support. I'm trying to determine whether it's worth it to spend the extra $100 for the 80GB version to gain PS2 support and the extra HDD space.Doesn't the 40GB version have no PS2 support?

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
I don't have a PS2, I have not played ANY of the good PS2 games.
I think I'll definitely be getting the 80GB version at this point.
How is video streaming and the PS3's web browser? Those are two functions that I think may prove useful.

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
Awesome, thanks!
I'll probably be picking it up when I get back home. Hopefully I can get it on the 31st or 1st, I have my doubts since it will be New Years...but we'll see. It would be nice to mess with it a bit before starting work again on the 3rd,
Any tips or recommendations of what I should do once I have it hooked up?

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
I have everything hooked up on the PS3 and am using component cables in 1080i.
I have no sound using the black/white composite cables...what did I forget to do

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
Issue resolved...
Wasn't getting any sound via the PS3 Component cables I purchased. I took the HDMI cable out of my HD-DVR and used that...sound is working now. I also noticed I get a bad rippling effect when using ANY component inputs on my HDTV.
It's been doing that for a while, but I thought it was just the XBox360 HD-DVD player. I guess the component inputs on this tv are broken. Using the HDMI connection cleared it all up. The bad thing is that my TV is a first generation DLP and it only has a single HDMI connection.
Looks like I'll be buying an HDMI switch and using all my devices via HDMI through that switch until I get my new TV.
All that aside, I'm really liking the PS3 so far. I haven't picked up any games yet, but it did come with MotorStorm. I picked up Open Season, Surfs Up, and Pirates of the Carribean: At Worlds End on BluRay.
Added SirBaron to friends list.

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
Yeah i have some issues with VGA connection on my TV it self has some faint lines when certain colors are used. Not big enough issue for me to replace it though with a 360 elite.
My TV has 2 HDMI and one of them is used by my PS3 ATM. Sure HDMI may be more convenient but it's also got less issues i find

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
hey u guys, its been forever since ive been here, anyways Killzone plays much smoother on ps3 than ps2 and the aspect ratio is better,(as it is more adjustable on the ps3)

Re: Playstation 3 (Backwards Compatibility)
I've been thinking of some PS2 games that I really need to get. I've compiled a short list of the games that I think I would want. Here is what I have come up with so far. I'm interested in hearing what you guys think I should add or remove from the list.
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy XII
Metal Gear Solid 3
Shadow of the Colossus
Ratchet and Clank
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
