    Call of Duty 4

Well finally got around to playing it (only in the first desert mission after you save some nikoli guy.)

Gameplay is pretty much COD in modern combat, while this isn't too bad the game does feel somewhat arcadey in the terms that it's control/shooting etc feels so old. However i can live with that.

Only thing which seems to get on me slightly is the graphics, damn are they inconsistent. Sometimes I'm going "damn that's nice looking" to 5 mins later going "omg this game looks like COD2 ".

I think it's the lack of shader effects on the textures and the skybox which are the main offenders . However due to that it does run amazingly well, might have to try some super high AA levels.

Still the skybox... i can forgive skyboxes if they are decent but these are so low resolution and really seem out of place. (in my opinion ofcourse).

One thing this game does do well though is the cutscenes, the bit at the start of the game where you see through the eyes of that middle eastern president was really well done.

I really loved COD4, I thought they way they mixed up the game play really made it stand out. Easily one of the best games I've played in a while. I do have an issue of what appears to be tearing, even though I have Vsync enabled and my frames are locked at 60fps. That was pretty annoying, but besides that I thought the graphics were pretty good, and always good enough for me not to be pulled out of the moment.

I acutally think the graphics in this game are great. Good lighting and fogging and other ambient effects and its very playable on my system. I love the multiplayer. Its really cool how you keep leveling up and get to use more guns and such. I havent beaten the sp yet, but im lvl21 in mp.

    Playing this now as well.

I just started, but like it so far.

We should try and get a MP game going and get on a team or something.

Like i said for me at least it's a mixed bag. Good graphics in some parts but then you get other levels where you can clearly see the low res skybox. I think Crysis spoiled me .

(not that i can't play games with lesser graphics, oh no)

    Re: Call of Duty 4

Got a couple of hours play time in tonight.

I guess you guys can sign me up as one of the very few people that just doesn't like this game. It's just not doign anything for me. It just seems like a standard FPS, nothing really spectacular about it at all. I don't even think the graphics are that great. They aren't bad...but they don't exactly look great either.

The game just doesn't "feel" right. I guess SirBaron said it best with a sort of arcadey feel. Standard Call of Duty game here I guess.

One annoying thing I noticed was the enourmous text that always pops up. Plus, why does the game always feel the need to constantly remind me how to do every single little action in the game even though I've done it 9999 times already? The AI is just plain ignorant. The grenade indicators are a nuisance.

I somehow expected this game to have taken a different direction than all the previous Call of Duty games the way people have been going on and on about it since its release. But to me, it's exactly the same as all the other games. I guess I just don't see what the fuss is about, it's just your standard FPS to me.

Oh well...I'll ride it through and move onto something else. I'll have to admit, I AM a bit dissapointed though. :(

Well I thought the demo was short, but fun. At least enough for me to purchase the game.

If it does turn out to suck it wouldn't be the first game to collect dust on a shelf.

    Never know till you try!

When I played the demo I didn't like it very much, it felt kind of weird to me and didn't seem to run that great. Now that I've played through the game I have to say that it was probably my favorite game of last year. Close behind or in the same area would probably be the Orange Box games.

As i get further it seems to be getting better, on War Pigs now (not that far i know but i am splitting time between so many games). That mission before Death from Above was ******* great though . Looked so amazing, obviously due to the nature of the mission it doesn't take much but it was just so awesome.

    Re: Call of Duty 4

hmmm, Not to thrilled with this game. It's like Sirbaron said, "Sometimes I'm going "damn that's nice looking" to 5 mins later going "omg this game looks like COD2."

Graphics in cut scenes are horrific IMO and that's my other not so happy about thing, the cut scenes. In the beginning of the game they drive around with you in first person view and my god man, what the hell is with all the grease on the guys head in the passenger seat. Seriously though, not being able to get through the LONG and VERY boring cut scenes is absolutely annoying. I almost turned the game off at that point out of disgust. Now I will say the shiny does not make up for the poor graphics. This meaning the shiny glossy look everything has is strange looking. I had to actually cut back on some extras to make it look "good".

    On to the game play!
    Seriously, yuk.

I'm actually not happy with this game in the single player aspect of it. I'm going to try the multi player tonight and see how that pans out, the game was based more on multi player anyhow.

I'm just not to happy with it so far though. I feel it wasn't worth the $50 I spent on it. :(

    Re: Call of Duty 4

I'm about 80% through the game. It does get better toward the end, but I still feel this is just an "average" FPS.

It's not quite what I had expected it would be, given all the raving reviews and amount of people going nuts over it. I don't think the graphics are really that good at all, it blows my mind that so many people actually compare it to Crysis. It's nowhere even remotely close to that level of polish. The story is pretty well done, that's a definite plus. The gameplay itself is pretty bad, I think. It's just not satisfying at all with the combat. It's not realistic at all. Often times it doesn't even seem like you've really hit an enemy, the hit detection or reaction from the enemies getting hit is pretty poor. I absolutely LOATHED the missions where you were forced to play with silenced weapons. I usually traded that up with something ASAP, since I like to hear the satisfyingly loud CRACK! of the guns. Also, the physics are rather sad as well. Seen some wierd things going on when people fly like 9999ft in the air. Plus, the AI is dumb as a box of rocks. With that said...why are my squad mates here anyway? They don't do a freakin' thing. They shoot all day and hit nothing. They even are kind of enough to force me out of the way and into incoming fire. It's extremely frustrating on the harder difficultly levels when they do this. You'kk be crouched behind a wall and all of a sudden you're automatically being shoved aside and killed. The player should ALWAYS have the right of way. You can't help feeling like a one-man army even though you are surrounded by other marines.

I consider this a rather solid arcade shooter, but that's pretty much where it ends. It's not really that great of a game, but it's not bad either. Just something to play and pass the time. I'll have to admit I am rather dissapointed, I actually expected quite a bit more. I was thinking it would be a bit more realistic by what everyone has been saying, but it's really just Call of Duty 2 with more modern weapons. Ah well...play through the rest of it and move on I guess.

    Re: Call of Duty 4

Oh god the getting bumped around by your teammates. I had forgotten about that.

Man, that shat is so stupid. It's like a fumbling football team with no clue on what they are doing while continuously getting in your way of a run.

The funnest part I had though was when your in the gunship. That was cool blowing shit up and watching the bodies fly through the air . What's scary is it was the most realistic part of the game so far.

They are alright, but definitely not awesome compared to a lot of other games. That's just my own opinion.
