did ati just release a new high end card that is slower than the really slow 2900?
that's what it seems like.
maybe people aren't making fun of it because they feel sorry for ati.
i hope they decided to work on drivers. damn catalysts corrupted my hard drive once!

Re: what did ati do?
you're talking about the 3850 and 3870? these cards seem to be decent competitors against the 8800gts and 8800gt because they cost so little. but you are right, I've been waiting to see ATi topple the 8800 Ultra... that gtx really was a beast when it came out.

Re: what did ati do?
ATI drivers suck like they did way back when. I miss the 9500-9800pro days... what a great time for ATI. They are so far from that glory now :(

Re: what did ati do?
I totally agree. When the 9700Pro was released, it killed absolutely everything by a HUGE margin and held that title for the longest time. There were people that were still using those boards ages after faster stuff came out. It's truly a rare occurance that hardware really lasts that long and can run all the latest games for literally years after its release.

Re: what did ati do?
do you guys ever feel sorry for ati? the 9700 and shrunken overclocked versions were their only good cards. now they may die soon. sometimes i pity them...but most of the time i laugh.

Re: what did ati do?
back in the 9800 and x800 days I thought they were great. Hell I still have my x800pro. It happens to be thumb tacked to my wall being that it's a relic now. Still has the special mod by VW_Factor cooler on it (old p4 heat sink that kicks ass). I will most likely put this card in a media PC later on. Meh who am I kidding, 8800GT will go in my media PC!

If I had a camera, I would take pics.

Re: what did ati do?
Yeah, not really sure why ATI is non competitive in the high end market. As for their drivers, if they are back to the "bad old days" then nVidia has gone back to their "Riva 128 pure crap" days.

Re: what did ati do?
for me the only 2 good cards where 9500pro and 9800pro. I remember getting the x800xt AIW and what a let down. I regret ever getting that card. Thank god I upgrade often enough that I never had to face the who SM3.0 that allot of people have been going through. But i dont even feel bad for them... good lord those are old cards now so its up to them and take those dusty old cards out for a fresh new card. As it stands now... if ATI does not deliver on the next gen of its cards.. it's only going to get harder for them compete.
Also, I find Nvidia drivers to be more than fine under vista.... they just need to keep optimizing as time goes by.
