    Crysis | Arctic Strike (My level i am making)

    Created this thread so the other one doesn't get full of crap, while people can keep tracking on what i am doing...

    Ok so while it contains Crysis stuff (obviously) it's not based in the crysis universe in the sense that aliens arn't taking over the world and all that crap.

    Map Name: Arctic Strike
    Briefing: Satelites have picked up what appears to be North Korean outposts on a Arctic Island, your task is to infiltrate each base and recover infomation from their uplink terminals and proceed to the extraction point. There are 4 Bases, 1 forward camp, 3 mains bases. Each are heavily guarded so extreme caution is advised.
    Type: Singleplayer (may try to get it coop compatible if i can find out how to do it)

    So yeah i am actually going to make a map and finish it for once, now that i know the basics, and some of the harder parts it's just creating the map which will take the longest time (obviously).


    Just going to keep a mini changelog to show you what i add and change throughout the map process

    Features Currently contained and working...

    Once the map reaches Beta is when i will release it (alpha being far longer phase though)


    Version 0.16 Alpha:
    • Fixed Watch Tower Ladder bug (cryteks fault not mine )
    • Added a nasty large crack in the island, a spiky crack at that...
    • More terrain noise to uneven the island

    Version 0.15 Alpha:
    • Edited the Terrain to be more hostile looking, and far less flat planes.
    • More Snow Dust blowing around (mainly at sharp hill tops)
    • Added some hills (with frozen tops, and very sharp points)
    • Changed time to 16:20, while Dawn looks cool, it makes the snow about too dull looking in my opinion.

    Version 0.14 Alpha:
    • Added snow track roads between each exsisting base
    • Snow mist blowing across the land


    Version 0.13 Alpha:
    • Front base moved, and improved with more buildings etc
    • Player spawns in a Cargo plane and is automatically thrown out (to dive into the water), far better than just spawning in the sky
    • Cargo plane with flightpath, acts as the player spawn holder


    Version 0.12 Alpha:
    • Icicles added to exsisting buildings (lots of copy and paste of tiny ass ice crystals...
    • More ice bergs again... (don't worry not all of the water will be full of them
    • Frozen parachute near starting area, next to open box with some equipment, and a lid little further from the box


    Version 0.11 Alpha:
    • Snow effects in some areas
    • More ice bergs
    • Player starts off falling out of the sky (basically he jumped out of a plane ¬¬)

    Version 0.1 Alpha:

    • Artic wind ambient sound to set the mood
    • Created Ice bergs in the a small part of the sea, some combined from many smallers ones to create large ones... Sadly these do not react to water dynamics, however they still look cooler than empty water
    • 1/4 of the base is complete, 1 patrol group with partial patrol route, this is only a small base but it's the closest one to your starting area, and the recommened one to strike first.
    • Time of Day is set to 7:30am

    Man the sandbox is addictive though spent 6 hours on it, and still working on the map...

    Version 0.13 Alpha:

    Hmmmm now this i expected to go wrong or not work, but it works too good

    What FPS checker is that in the top left? Upload some pics of the icicles . looks good though, . I hate flowcharts.

    Yeah flowcharts are a bitch, especially when they get long.

    When i took the shots i turned on Timedemo record somehow... not sure what keycombination sets it off but it's a pita.





    The icicles are not the best quality (2d sprites) but you can see them on the 3rd pic hanging off the metal bars, i like little details like that Still lots of work to do, lots of icicles to add, more terrain deformation/textures etc. Plus i gotta finish the first base so i can make the other 3.

    Only did some minor tweaks as i am going to bed now... I want this map to be really good quality so it may take a while for me to finish.

    Not as easy to see in the blowing snow dust in this shot but you see a road .

    Like i said before though base layout is far from finished, need's fencing, a lot more people and a few more buildings (stuff placed in them etc).

    Didn't get much time with the editor today sadly, however as you can see i am workong on adding more variety to the land it self.

    Just gotta wrap your mind around the new editor and I'm sure you'll do fine. Looks like you're having fun already

    Looking good so far, i'm making my own NK headquarters atm, i need to work on texture/vegetation.

    edit: baron, how do you make a ladder?

    Looks like your doing well on it!

    Don't worry about rushing this out. It sounds like you already have the right idea...but PLEASE, take your time.

    Don't worry i wont , i know how people seem to judge final quality based on early versions, so i want to release a good version first before that.

    This will take a couple of months to finish, perhaps more depending on what i do. I want this map to be nice, not just nice for a first map...

    Wow so far I like what I see. You are doing it the right way by having a plan on the story and objective. makes it alot easier to picture then place what your thinking.
    I love the crevice or Ravine, looks amazing. would be cool to add a team of snow dogs or something at one of the forward camps or maybe snow mobiles. I don't have the game so I don't know what they included in the editor but just some ideas.

    Thanks... now if only i still had the level . Lost the level due to a corrupted windows a while back. (hence the lack of updates)

    Hopefully i can get back into it, and try again but this time better. (hopefully)

    Dammit, I new about the corrupted windows, but I guess I didn't put 2 and 2 together Well all I have to say is what you had so far was amazing, I hope you can get back into it.
