I don't play it... then again, I'm not a fan of MMO's in general.

However, I can sell you a cheap 30-Day game card if you're interested... Got it as a gift and I don't plan on ever using the damn thing.

What, you didn't expect me to pass up a chance to make a profit on a gift I'll never use, did you?

Haha, tempting. But I already have a prepaid subscription(paid a whole year in advance).

    Re: EQ2...

I wanted to start playing it again, so I went ahead and bought a month for $15 and began playing.

This game runs like absolute trash on 8800 series boards. Did some looking around and seems a lot of people are having issues with performance. Only way I could get it to run smooth all the time was to run High Performance or Extreme Performance settings.

No way in hell I would ever play this game like that. Extremely dissapointed, canceled the subscription after 3hrs of play.

Im sry that you cancelled. I get acceptable performance with just greater than a step above balanced. Using a 8800 GTS 320 atm.

I use custom settings but start from balanced and turn things up in the important parts, until I get good performance. If you turn things to extreme performance, and still perform badly, either you need to disable SLI, or you have other problems.

    /agrees

I have 2 computers both with 8800GTX cards(and Vista) and they both run EQ2 great. I have game almost fully cranked(even shadows and particles) for regular game play and I turn down particles for raids. I sit around 20-50fps depending on zone(50-60 in CL, 10-15 in Qeynos Harbor).

What are the rest of your computer specs? Maybe we can get it running good for you

Edit: I really am loving this new expansion pack, a little something for everyone really.

    I'm not using SLi.

My specs are listed in the "SPECS" button on the left....

Hmm, looks pretty solid. What are the amps on your 12v rails of your PSU(some 550w PSUs don't like 8800GTXs any, I know my old one didn't)? What video drivers are you using? Updated DX to the latest(Nov '07 I believe)? What ingame setting are you using? Some will not your(or any computer) at all.

    Re: EQ2...

All of that stuff is fine on my PC. The in-game settings I'm using are what I stated above. The only way to get truly playable framerates is to drop it all the way down to the auto-configured Extreme Performance or Very High Performance settings.

Some will not your(or any computer) at all.
    Say what?

    Re: EQ2...

Haha, I'm an idiot. That was suppose to say..."Some will not run on your computer(or any other computer) at all." Why I left out words is beyond me.

Do not use the ingame pre-defined settings(extreme performance, balanced, etc...). Go through your settings one by one and fine tune the game to run right on your system. On my desktop(specs on the left) it defaults to high textures and no shadows...on my laptop(3.0GHz P4, 2GB DDR2-533, GeForce GO 6800 256MB video card) it defaults to med textures and high shadows. It's about as useless as t!ts on a frog.

Also, with the new expansion just released, a lot of systems(both high end and low end and everywhere in the middle) are feeling a crunch. This happens anytime they release an expansion or adventure pack. Give them a few weeks to patch it up right. So, not all of this is your systems fault(or fixable there).

East Freeport, Qeynos Harbor, and a few other zones always run rough(I have slightly lower fps in EL and Neriak also, but pretty solid other places. QH and EF are a joke, 5-8 fps near brokers and also at the docks in Zek, but rest of Zek is fine). This has been this way since launch and most of us that have been here that long have just accepted it. If you only have issues in those 2 zones pretty much, I would not worry so much about it. If, say in Nek forest or Thundering Steppes runs slow...then there is an issue.

If you want, I can add a list of the most complained about zones so you know if we need to look at your settings/computer, or if it's just SOE's lazy @ss.

    Re: EQ2...

I went through every setting in the game manually and tried numerous combinations of everything. I remember playing the game with much higher settings with AA applied when I first bought the game on release day and several months of playtime afterward. I was only quoting the games predefined settings as a reference point, rather than listing every single setting in the game that I adjusted.

The game's performance isn't right, regardless of the area. I won't lower the settings because the game is picky about what video card it's being ran on. I just simply won't play it.

And also...I'm not exactly a newbie to this sort of thing. Just so you know.
