Guide | Vista and refresh rates...

This has been a major pain in the ass with me for ages, because i use a HDTV as my monitor now, it always ment that games would select 1920x1080... at 30hz . Interlaced looks like ass, so i kept selecting 60hz by unchecking the hide refresh rates box. Alas games kept going back to 30hz and i had overscan, really bad screen lag etc. Now after my months of searching i have finally fixed it.

How to lock your refresh rates in Vista

    RefreshLock v2.21 http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rl/

If you haven't installed drivers (or are not available as in my case), then you can also use the program.

So, right cin the Display Settings -> Monitor (tab) uncheck Hide modes that this monitor cannot display. At this point, you run RefreshLock and enter the refresh rates manually (only needed once though).

Once selected it should work with all games.

    Two points:

1.) You cannot set it to start at boot up (through app) cause if you do, all your refresh rate settings are reset to 0 after reboot.

2.) You can set it to load up through the Startup directory in Start -> All Programs. Although, if you have Windows Defender enables, then you will have to unblock RefreshLock at every fresh boot.

Oh, and if there are any problems changing refresh rates, try run the app (or create a shorcut and set it) as 'Run as Administrator'.

I have never once had this issue with my 42" Westinghouse HDTV. But i will keep this in mind in case i run into it some where in the future.
