Out of date in threee months :(

Ok, so I bought my rig in August (specs are in sig). My big mistake was going for a mobo that didn't support SLI. So now I'm thinking about selling my current mobo and GFX and buying two new 8800 series card for SLI. Is this to soon to be thinking of a major upgrade like this? It makes me sick to think that I just bought this peice for 1g, and now I have to do a major upgrade to play the newest titles with decent fps. Is it just me, or are PC's lasting shorter and shorter periods of time before their out of date?

I dont know... but if thats what you want.... you could wait for the GX2 version of the G80 family and then SLI those for quad sli.

Some games really take high end hardware and spank it, like Supreme Commander. I hope that many other games stay away from that. What game is it that's making you think you need the upgrade?

First computer I ever bought myself was last Xmas... I think the specs are in sig. I was a dumbass and bought an HP and suped it up . I dont really know what made me do that because I've built from the ground up before. But anyways, the ram addition I made and fact that I splurged on a 8800GTS 640MB means I can still play new games a decent fps. I was acutally really happy with my Crysis demo performance. Ill be able to run it waaay better than I ran Far Cry first run thru and my PC will be a year old by the time it comes out!

    Join the club

Mine is about 2 years old. Been trying to save the $$ to update to a bad ass Q6600 and some 8800gtx goodness.

Hehe, the Q6600 does look tempting... especially maybe an OEM one although the 45nm chips in early 08' are most likely what I'd wait for as a possible semi-upgrade, as they'll be much lower power I think, and the lowest quadcore (Q9350 I think) should be cheap enough hopefully - I'd probably keep my current card for now, as although it isn't super fast, it seems good enough to play games on the Unreal Engine 3, with mainly processor limitations as far as I can tell. Plus I could make use of all the other components in my PC to keep the costs down. But I want to try and stop myself from getting the upgrade bug, as I know it'll end up becoming a habit, and one that I can't really afford (not if i want to get other things, like a house)!

I had that upgrade bug before. It's a doozy on the wallet!!

With what I do, I need to have a better pc with 2 separate HD's with 2 separate os installs so that I can install games on both XP and Vista for reviewing and beta testing.

Other than that I do allot of multi tasking like; photoshop, multiple messenger windows open, multiple IE and FF windows and tabs open, music, downloads, and other crap. It's tapping all that the A64 3500+ provides as well as my 2Gig mem. Oh and sometimes I will have a game running in the back that I alt+tab back and forth to. So having a Q6600 with better mem would make for a hell of allot better environment for my usage.

Ah yeah it's pretty much a necessity for what you do! You're doing well doing all that with a single core CPU at the moment then! I always notice how Firefox can be a bit of a drain on game performance, causing stuttering, so it'd help alot.

Why use FF and IE? Just go with Firefox imo ;)

Because their are things I have to test in IE as well as FF.
