    Profanity filter Suggestion to Mods.

I wanted to suggest a profanity filter for the forum. I'm new around here, and have been looking over stuff and I keep seeing "bad words" scattered throughout the different topics. At least for me when I see that kind of thing it just seems pretty unprofessional, but obviously its not up to the user to control how the feel of a site is, which is why most places I've been you get the **** replacing the words. So what I think would be good is to filter by default, and if for some reason you'd want to see the words then have the option to disable the filter. Just my two cents.

Well we actually do have a Profanity Filter in place. If you would be so kind as to PM me with the words that you think are bad I can look into the issue.

The filter kinda borks normal words that contain bad words.... the OP name is messed up even because it has a.s.s. in it. I dont really get the need for a filter yet... this place does not have a large community of bad posters... an occasional bad word is not the big a deal as we are adults here and should be able to keep the language to a minimum on our own.

It really is only the 12 year old kids that come in and spam forums with profanities.

As long as people keep a watch on their own mouth's it should be ok. In a perfect world i think it should be a user selectable option? Not sure if it's possible but turn it on by default. If the user want's to see profanity then turn it off in the user control panel.

I totally agree... rage3d went through this last year and i suggested that... but no one would take the time to make it happen. To bad because its the perfect solution the problem.

What does a profanity filter protect your fragile eyes from?

To me, its annoying to see spatters of **** this, and **** that around a forum. I know what it means, its not any less effective that way.

In the end, professional.. Not professional? I think some people are too stuck up to realize that there are times you dont swear to people, and other times its accepted. A forum, is certainly not churchy type place where swearing should be frowned upon.

I fixed the filtering of words that contained parts of words the filter detected. Embarrassed and assassins, etc.. all should be fine now, only whole words are filtered. Having the filter enabled or disabled is now a user selectable option in your settings. Go to View Profile > Look and Layout Preferences and you should see the option. The word censoring is on by default.

That may have been happening when I had it set to be whole word. ass *a.s.s* by it's self is currently blocked and asshole *a.s.s.hole* should only block the ass part.

    The only words I will not uncensor is the f-bomb. I like the way it currently is.... fuck - f.u.*.*. , fuckers - f.u.*.*.ers , ******* - f.u.*.*.ing.

Going to ad a vote to this and leave it up for a little while to get a general idea on how the members would rather have it. This will not mean your free to cuss all you want if this is lifted. The dropping of the f-bomb allot or other words will get your posts deleted. Certain words like racial words and some sexually orientated words are not going to be lifted.

If we do lift this, it is up to you as a poster to manage your own posts. We ask that you keep it clean. We like to think of this as a professional site so be professional.

I vote no. The filter should stay in place for some words. Regular swearing is okay IMO. If any kids do visit this forum, chances are they have seen swearing elsewhere, in movies as well.. Racial remarks should be filtered. If people don't want to see the **** placed by the filter, the option is in their settings to disable the filter for them. No offense to anyone, but most people are too stupid to moderate their own posts
