I havent followed totally closely, however..
Without posting links, simply google "google fcc" and you should get results over what its about.
Parts of the old TV spectrum will be freed up and auctioned off. From what I understand, Google has made it clear, that it WILL bid extremely aggressively against the telcom companies in order to basically dole out free wireless to America.
Rumors that Verizon is attempting to bring up a lawsuit against Google in a bid to show that giving out "the internet, for free" will ruin telcom business. (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc all charge HUGE fees to use their private networks with your cellphone ie. paying 3 bucks for a smurfing ringtone, when its 99 cents on iTunes or whatever).
Why is it, that companies are scared of it being EASIER to share information? Why is it, that people like us, that use the internet everyday, want it to continue to be of government interference? Why would Verizon or the like not like to use FREE INTERNET CONNECTIVITY itself for its benefit, but instead bitch about it ruining what they have?
What are your opinions on this stuff?
Edit : This may be a P&R subject, but I figured I would start it here, because of the news of the rumor.
