At PDC today, Microsoft gave the first public demonstration of Windows 7. Until now, the company has been uncharacteristically secretive about its new OS; over the past few months, Microsoft has let on that the taskbar will undergo a number of changes, and that many bundled applications would be unbundled and shipped with Windows Live instead. There have also been occasional screenshots of some of the new applets like Calculator and Paint. Now that the covers are finally off, the scale of the new OS becomes clear. The user interface has undergone the most radical overhaul and update since the introduction of Windows 95 thirteen years ago.

Been using Windows 7 beta for a bit now and have to say that it has proven to be a VERY nice improvement of Vista and XP. I doubt I'll be able to easily go back now, I'm just too spoiled on Win7.

I'm actually having an issue trying to get steam games to play under Win 7. I give it permission to run under admin, but it errors out saying I do not have permission after the first loading screen.

If you turned UAC off, that may be the problem, believe it or not. UAC can be set to silent mode, but off can jack up some permission settings.

Yes there is a UAC, but it is a lot better than Vista. I will try the Silent mode as Moshpit pointed out.

Just a little update on the thread.
Been using Win 7 as my main OS for some time now. I think it's a wonderful OS for my needs. I really like the UI change especially.

Been using Win7 a while now myself. Its Vista, but waaay better.
System is noticeably quicker, and "not so much a chore" to use and get things done with. Gaming performance is better. File transfers are not a futile waiting game anymore.
I like it much better.
And I have no issues running Steam games in Win7. I have UAC turned off however, and operating as a "real admin" account.

I have been running mine with everything it came with. This was to get the "full experience" out of the OS. The UAC doesn't promt as much as it did in Vista and it does in fact stop unwanted programs from trying to install them selves. Just as you pointed out, it is much more responsive than Vista and is definitely more helpful than a shore anymore.
