I must say. Minus the few little glitches Im not used too, such as the extra blanking of the monitor at times when starting Windows, or games. It really has matured since its beginnings when I played with it, and figured that it was just a gimick for higher benchmarks.
No. Today it really is a very viable option for those who want smoother gaming performance. Sometimes it seems as if things are a little "hitchy", however I think Im just being overly critical and its just my mind playing tricks on me.
The games I play are much smoother and at higher AF and AA levels, attaining even greater framerates than I was previously.
The only thing that maybe gets me, is that when I want to plugin to my HDTV, I need to disable the second card. I think this is limiting of the technology used, however we can all hope that someday this is fixed, or maybe we'll all get back into extremely powerful single card solutions, where this will again be possible.

Re: Im now playing with SLI.
You're not hallucinating when you think things are "hitchy". That's a drawback of AFR rendering. I saw it with Crossfire on occasion as well.

Ok...and ATI's crossfire is any better?

ATI drivers have been so shitty since 5.11 drivers. Now that's looking back a long time.
Some one somewhere else said something about how NVIDIA only makes drivers every so often. You wanna know why? It because they take the time to actually make them work. So there is no need to come out with a new driver every month like ATI does to fix previous issues that seem to break something else in their drivers.

Re: Im now playing with SLI.
I don't know if I'd say ATI is "crap", they're just playing catch up, per usual. I imagine they'll come out with some

Re: Im now playing with SLI.
Huh? Where did you get this from? I said I had the SAME PROBLEM with Crossfire.

Re: Im now playing with SLI.
Yeah I duno how I made that argument out of your statement. I read the different when I posted my statement. But I still stand behind the fact that crossfire is shitty compared to NVIDIA's SLI.

I hated it and how it caused so many issues. That and in game issues. Low frame rates, bad lighting, and overall horrid experiance with ATI for as long as I was an ATI user.

Re: Im now playing with SLI.
Having worked extensively with both professionally, and gamed on both, I'd have to say that CF is not inherently inferior to SLI, it's just that SLI is the more mature technology, and NV has the better approach to letting users enable multi-card rendering in apps that the driver does not inherently support (e.g. application profiles).

I had my share of complaints about CCC and the Catalyst drivers too, but the problems were all resolved, and features were added, and performance was improved, and everything just plain got better with successive driver releases starting in the middle of 2006. The fact that you do not make the same claim, and keep referring to Catalyst 5.11 tells me you were either:
a) a previous-gen card user (i.e. x850 or older), in which case the 5.11 was the last driver ATI focused on improving performance of such cards
or
b)stop using ATI hardware/software after Catlalyst 5.11
In addition to that, I have been a happy ATI gamer (on and off) since early 2001 when I bought my first Radeon card (a Radeon 32MB DDR LE card with aftermarket cooler and o/c'd). I've had so many great gaming experiences with ATI hardware (most notably my kick-ass 9600 AIW Pro, X800 XL, and X1900 XTX/XTX CF cards), so my *extensive* ATI gaming experience does not corroborate your (so far unelaborated) experiences.
Let's not have a pissing match, k?

Re: Im now playing with SLI.
Hey!
What's wrong with Mike C.?!?!!?!!?!
nVNews is a pretty nice site, I consider it the premier NVIDIA fansite. It is to NVIDIA what Rage is to ATI. (although Rage has shifted to become more of a tech site like AT of late)
Anyway, my few dealings with Mike C have been pleasant enough.

Re: Im now playing with SLI.
The Latency issues with AFR can be avoided if you keep your frame rates above 30 on AVG, It shouldnt be a problem. If it drops below 20 it can be a real problem and make for some jerky graphics . But you have other options. SLIAA, and Split Frame Rendering as well.
