Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
I run 2gig in my puter. But it still doesn't seem like it's enough when I run VISTA. My next rig is gonna have 1gig sticks in each slut....I mean slot!

A: Women. They are a complete mystery.

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
Grrr....now I'm going to need 4gb to play games? I love gaming on my PC, even more than on my 360, but I just can't keep spending all this money to upgrade. Will be a sucky time when I finally have to decide between one or the other because that new pc game won't run above 15fps@1280x1024@med details.

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
2GB is mainstream and now it looks like Vista is gonna make 4GB mainstream quite soon.

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
That's also a limitation of a 32-bit operating system. XP 64 or Vista 64 will solve that problem. I'm only running 2GB of ram, probably won't be messing around again in Vista until SP1 comes out. XP, 2GB no problem

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
2gb here, but i am sure 3- 4 would help a lot. although most games dont use more than 1.4gb

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
They sure do when you use Vista though as Vista likes more memory.

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
Don't forget though having 4GB of memory won't really have an advantage unless you use a x64 OS although a x86 OS can read I think around 3GB if you have 4GBs of ram.
But x64 3rd party support ain't quite there yet.

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
That is an older article by now (it was current when posted here, however). They don't mention in the article that Vista uses more RAM than it needs to in IDLE mode and can actually cut down usage quite a bit when the RAM is required for a big app. You do, however, need a bit more RAM for Vista. Those benchmarks don't show a huge decrease in FPS.

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
You're right, what Vista does when idle is disk caching among other things. The memory management in Vista is superior to XP. Also, there are more default services running in the background too, as expected.

Re: Vista gaming - Got enough RAM?
I'm using 2 gigs of ram and games have been running great, that is until I fired up Crysis yesterday. I don't think thats a memory issue though.
