» No Wii Successor Anytime Soon |
|
Nov 17, 2008 - 11:43 PM - by Uraloserface101

Speaking to Reuters, Nintendo US's president, Reggie Fils-Aime, confirmed that Nintendo won't release new home consoles anytime soon.
"We believe the role of a new console, a new system, is to bring great new entertainment ideas to life. We launched (the Wii and DS) those systems when we had great ideas that would benefit either from a touch screen or from a Wii remote," he told Reuters.
"We will consider the launch of new consoles when we have got great new entertaining ideas that can only be done with a new console. As we sit here today the Wii console has a long run ahead of it, (the DS too)."
"At some point we will launch the DSi here in the Americas. So as we look at the near term for us it's all about maximizing the opportunity with the (Wii and DS)."

» Real Life Pirates Threaten Christmas Games Availability |
|
Nov 17, 2008 - 11:40 PM - by Uraloserface101
|
The greatest danger for the videogame industry through this holiday season is piracy; but this time we are talking actual thugs driving real life boats, intercepting real life ships and stealing real physical merchandise.
High seas piracy has been thriving in the vicinity of Somalia for quite a while. The Somali pirates are now expanding their base of operation beyond the Horn of Africa into the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, imperiling access to the Suez Canal.
"If there isn't a let up and active intervention by navies in the region, the impact on trade will come within weeks or months because we've gone from one attack every couple of weeks to four in a single day," Sam Dawson of the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) told Reuters.
To avoid the pirates, shipping companies have to voyage round the Cape of Good Hope and add upwards of three weeks to a typical journey, delaying... [Read More]

Quote:
Load your Windows desktop with a clean boot in just a few seconds, even after a proper shut down
With high electricity prices and tough economic times ahead, now isn’t a good time for most of us to leave our PCs on 24/7, but that also means you’ll have to wait a little while when you switch on your PC if you want a clean boot of Windows. However, Asustek’s budget motherboard wing, ASRock, reckons it’s found a good way around this with its Instant Boot system.
The idea behind Instant Boot is that it takes advantage of the S3 and S4 features of ACPI (advanced configuration and power interface), which normally enable the Sleep/Standby and Hibernation modes in Windows | ... [Read More]

The new rating summaries will be accessible when searching for rating information via the ESRB website at www.esrb.org , its rating search widget, and a new mobile website at m.esrb.org.
"Research shows that the vast majority of parents who purchase games for their kids are aware of and regularly check ESRB ratings, but parents can always use more help when making choices as to which games are right for their children," said Patricia Vance, president of the ESRB. "With our new rating summaries, which... [Read More]

» Microsoft Plans To Sell Downloadable Full Games |
|
Nov 15, 2008 - 5:06 AM - by Uraloserface101
|
Games for Windows Live general manager Chris Early confirmed that Microsoft will utilize the GFW platform to distribute Full PC games in the near future.

Microsoft has already released an update for GFW that improved its interface. Another update, to be released within three weeks, will add support for video, demos and DLC downloads through a marketplace application.
Microsoft's new distribution business will be in direct competition with Valve's Steam distribution system. Steam doesn't allow developers to charge for DLC, and Microsoft hopes to exploit that by offering exclusive priced DLCs through GFW. Games such as Fallout 3 can be available on both Steam and GFW, but if the developer wishes to make money off DLCs, he'll have to offer them through GFW.
